Gold Helix Photonic Metamaterial as Broadband Circular Polarizer
A team of scientists of the groups of Prof. Martin Wegener and Prof. Volker Saile investigated propagation of light through a uniaxial photonic metamaterial composed of three-dimensional gold helices arranged on a two-dimensional square lattice.
The new Pupils Laboratory opened by the Department of Physics on July 22, 2009 gives pupils insights into the exciting field of optics & photonics for example by showing how to catch and move microobjects with the help of a laser beam.
The construction of the lab was supervised by Prof. Kurt Busch, Prof. Heinz Kalt and Prof. Günter Quast. KSOP is supporting the pupils laboratory.

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) has initiated a video portal on the excellence initiative, in order to learn more about the initiative's projects.
We are very proud to announce that the KSOP movie Bright Perspective is now online. It reflects the outstanding KSOP Ph.D. projects within our four research areas as well as the innovative educational concept of KSOP.
Many thanks go to the KSOP Ph.D. students, mentors and professors who were involved in the shooting! Through their contribution, the outcome of the movie has become such a big success.
