Ion mobility measurements on mass-selected cluster ions

Elemental clusters bridge the gap from the molecular state to the bulk phase. In this PhD project a variety of different, both positively and negatively charged, cluster ions will be studied in a temperature range from 80 K up to 373 K by means of ion mobility spectrometry and collision induced dissociation. The aims are to analyze the geometric structures and energetics of the mass-selected ions and to use ion mobility spectrometry to provide mass and isomer selected species for subsequent laser spectroscopic characterization of the electronic structure.
