Photonic quasicrystals (PQCs) lack any translational symmetry, but show long-range order and high-degree rotational symmetries. PQCs are fabricated by direct laser writing to study their rich optical properties. Complex photonic band structures and the existence of stop bands are revealed via transmittance and reflectance measurements and with a newly constructed spectrally resolved diffraction experiment. Furthermore, we perform corresponding theoretical calculations of periodic structures approximating the PQCs.
