Fabrication and characterization of 2D and 3D Metamaterials

Photonic Metamaterials are artificial optical materials which are based on a periodic arrangement of functional building blocks. They have optical properties which have no analogue among natural substances.

Until today, only flat structures can be made by enhanced lithography processes. So the task of my thesis will be to find a way to create 3-dimensional Metamaterials. One possible approach is to use the Direct Laser Writing method and combine it with an isotropic metal coating process like Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
