Visibility Assessment for Driver Assistance Systems

Future driver assistance systems (DAS) will have to focus on adverse weather conditions, since e.g. wet roads or limited visibility caused by heavy rain or fog can severely decrease traffic safety. The goal of this research project is to develop algorithms that measure visibility in video sequences acquired by a moving vehicle which may lead to a reliable classification of adverse weather conditions and accurate prediction of performance limits of DAS in order to guarantee safe driving.
