Partnerships and Collaborations

KSOP is supported by the institutions shown below. Recalling the role of optics and photonics as a multidisciplinary enabling technology, it is of crucial importance that engineering as well as basic science departments contribute to the graduate school.

The International Department plays a key role for the international recruiting of the most talented students and supports foreign students in the initial stage of their studies in Germany. It also provides the modules for skills in project and human resources management through its HECTOR School of Engineering and Management.

KSOP benefits from strong collaborations with the non-university institutions FZI and ZSW. The collaboration with the FZK within KIT strengthen the excellent Ph.D. research possibilities by giving additionally access to a unique infrastructure and by allowing the interaction with world-class research groups. The collaboration with the FZI is especially important for the application oriented projects and supports the transfer of research results obtained at KIT into commercial products. The film deposition equipment and the analytical methods available at the ZSW give an additional benefit to the Ph.D. students. The ZSW has large laboratories for photovoltaic deposition technologies. It not only offers challenging Master and Ph.D. thesis subjects, but can also provide first insight into practical problems and up-scaling issues during internships.
