Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics
About us

The “Karlsruhe School of Optics & Photonics” (KSOP) offers a novel combined masters program and a Ph.D. program – both of which are new for the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) as well as for Germany in general. KSOP is supported by 12 professors from different departments of the KIT. Physics, chemistry, biology and mechanical as well as electrical engineers from KIT and partner institutions contribute in a multidisciplinary way to the new program.

Research Areas

The four KSOP research areas are organized according to the needs in education and the existing strengths of the research programs at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). We have structured KSOP along the following four research areas:

  • (I) Photonic Materials & Devices
  • (II) Advanced Spectroscopy
  • (III) Biomedical Photonics
  • (IV) Optical Systems

All research areas are strongly interlinked and most institutes feature research projects in more than one of the research areas.
